Mapping the invisible: 3D cartography for an award-winning spelunking documentary
"On a marché sous la Terre" follows explorers Cédric Lachat and David Parrot in their quest to connect the Fromagère chasm with the legendary Gouffre Berger in the Vercors massif — reaching 900 meters below the surface.
I created all the 3D animation and cartography sequences for the film: terrain modeling from geological data, animated underground network visualizations showing the cave systems in their full complexity, and depth-scale graphics that help viewers grasp the sheer scale of these subterranean worlds. The challenge was to make the invisible visible — translating raw survey data into cinematic, immersive 3D sequences.
Directed by Alexandre Lopez and produced by Bonobo Production, the documentary aired on France 3 and was awarded 7 prizes at major European adventure and mountain film festivals, including the Grand Prix du Fodacim and the Prix spécial du jury at the Chamonix Film Festival.
